WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

This body of work explores the tension between literal and conceptual values imbued upon a landscape, wildness and domestication, and ecological integrity and social well-being of communities whose livelihoods depend on natural resource extraction. Influenced by the personal and the political, I draw inspiration from the historical and social landscape of place. Using my own rural community as a starting point, I articulate the complexity and range of the public's relationship with their nearby landscape. These images are rooted in my living in the West, specifically Pacific Northwest timber country, in attempt to understanding the place I now call home.

Each image contains a timber cruise card for its background with a digital collage on duralar with gouache handwork overlay. A handful of 24 images in this series are shown here. Nine images within this series is part of Umpqua Community College's permanent art collection.
