SHADOW EFFECTS


Shadow Effects is an installation exploring two seeming disparate worlds by comparing and contrasting the public library with the Oregon & California Railroad Lands (O&C Lands).


Using the public library as a barometer of community heath, I highlight the relationship between O&C Lands and the county. Through transcribed interviews, maps, demographic information, videos, and ephemera, viewers are confronted with issues at stake in communities dependent on federal timber revenues, and asked to consider the potential future of O&C Lands and the library as a result of difficult economic times.


This work is possible through the generosity of the Oregon Arts Commission Career Opportunity Grant. It was exhibited at the Douglas County Museum in Roseburg, OR; the Pearson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji, IA; and the Rogue Gallery and Art Center in Medford, OR.
